Why is Seoul Obsessed with 'Dubai Chocolate'? (The Rise of 'Du-Jjon-Ku')

If you walk into any trendy cafe in Seongsu or Hongdae these days, you will see the same sign: "Dubai Chocolate Available" (or usually, "Sold Out").

It’s not just chocolate. It has evolved into "Du-Jjon-Ku" (Dubai-Chewy-Cookie). As a journalist observing K-Trends, I analyzed why this specific dessert has taken over Seoul.

What is it? (The Texture)

It originated from a viral TikTok video in Dubai, but Koreans tailored it. The core is "Kadayif" (crunchy Middle Eastern noodles) mixed with Pistachio Cream, stuffed inside a Chewy Cookie (Jjon-deuk).

  • Key Factor: It’s all about the ASMR. The "Crunch" sound when you bite into it is addictive.

Why the Obsession?

  1. The "Open Run" Culture: Koreans love chasing scarce items. Convenience stores (CU, GS25) launched their own versions, and people use apps to track inventory.

  2. Visual Impact: The bright green pistachio filling looks perfect on Instagram Stories.

Don't buy the cheap convenience store versions (they often use fried noodles instead of real Kadayif). Go to a specialized bakery in Yeonnam-dong or Gangnam to try the authentic "Du-Jjon-Ku." Be prepared to pay around 8,000 KRW per cookie.
